To begin preparations for centenary celebrations, Men-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan medical and Astrology Institute) based in Dharamsala, India organized a lecture in memory of late Dr. Tenzin Choedrak, chief physician to the Dalai Lama, at India International Centre, New Delhi on October 10, 2013.
"This memorial lecture is part of the preparations for the centenary celebration of founding of Men-Tsee-Khang before its actual centenary celebration which will be in the year 2016." says Tashi Tsering Phuri, the Director of the Institute. "We will begin the actual celebration in Delhi on March 23, 2016 and also few other cities of the world," he further added.
A member of Upper House [Rajya Sabha] of Indian Parliament, Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan chaired the lecture and remarked that the location of mind in the body is a million, billion dollar question. However, according to the Tibetan medical text, the mind is believed to be located in the heart.
Dr. Tenzin Choedrak was born in 1922 near Lhasa, Tibet and was taken as a prisoner to China in 1959 and remained at Jiuzhen prison till 1962. He was then sent to Drapchi and Yitritu prisons, infamous in Tibet for its terrible living conditions, where he remained until 1972. He was later transferred to Sangyib prison and was released in 1980 after 21 years of imprisonment. Upon his arrival in India during the same year, he was reinstated as the chief physician to the Dalai Lama.
