Another Tibetan Monk Dies After Setting Himself On Fire

Another Tibetan monk is reported dead after setting himself on fire to protest China's policy in Tibet.

Tibetans in exile in Dharamsala, India, say that 28-year-old Lobsang Thokmey died Saturday afternoon local time in Amdo region of Sichuan province.

An exiled Tibetan tells VOA Tibetan Service that the monk poured gasoline over himself outside his monastery and set himself on fire. Fellow monks rushed him to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A large security force arrived at the hospital and took away his body despite the protests of Thokmey's family and his monastery.

Mid-March marks the 5th anniversary of deadly 2008 mass riots in Tibetan-populated areas in China against what Tibetans see as Chinese repression.

More than 100 Tibetans have self-immolated since 2009 to protest Beijing's policy in their homeland.
