A Tibetan woman has set herself ablaze in Kyegudo in Amdo (Ch: Qinghai) province to protest demolition of her house. She is known to have survived her self-immolation.
Last week, Chinese authorities are known to have demolished around a thousand of Tibetan houses that have been rebuilt in Kyegudo following a powerful earthquake that hit the area in 2010. Houses have been wrecked for failure to obtain legal registration of occupacy.
Since February 2009, there have been a total of 111 self-immolations in Tibet and Tibetan regions reported to focus on political and religious issues, with another two self-immolations that were reported to have been motivated by property rights issues.
